Hey, great to see someone else is after the crook! Here's another blog shedding some light on this shady personality:

I also feel like although this crook can entartain a lot of us Elance deserves some heat too. They're concerned about their profits only and do little to protect honest users that regularly get ripped off by "Naveens" out there.

Ok, our story is making a sudden turn. Two days ago we sent the following message:

We hired a service provider (petermore) via Elance, who embezzled our money and disappeared. Apparently the person is using multiple aliases, however we located the following profile online: http://projectfirm.com/modules.php?name=Your_Account&op=userinfo&uname=Aadyanav , which contained information such AIM id used while dealing with us at Elance. We sent an email 2 days ago to the email listed in the profile aadyanav@hotmail.com, which started this thread.

The person replying to the messages sent to this address implicated (synapseindia) Synapse Communications. Also as a result of this thread were were contacted by someone calling themselves petermore ( elance@petermore.com) who confirmed involvements with ASM Labs.

It is unfortunate that we reserve to this step, but the lies were persistently propagated throughout this incident. We appeal to you for your support in identifying the person involved in this Scam operation.

Please read carefully though this thread as it contains links, email addresses as well as wealth of additional informaion that should be enough to identify the crook, which is possibly working for your organization at the moment.

All thruoughout we've been staying in touch with Elance Investigations. We have allerted Elance of the possible connection between petermore and synapseindia, but asked them not to take any steps agains your account until we make all reasonable efforts in resolving this crime together with you.

Strangely enough aadyanav was an alias used on Elance as well. It is possible the crook is operating under other aliases on Elance right now. Elance does not appear to have any processes in place to prevent this sort of activity.

Well, during the time when we were still hopefull to get something in return for our money petermor (or whatever his real name) created us an account at asmlabs.com There we were able to locate contact information that allowed us to locate the following information about the crook:

At some point the thief worked at a bank! Is it where he developed an taste of other people's money?

Looking for help beyond Elance

Today we sent a message to the four contacts in the US given by that service provider as reference.

We have obtained your contact information from an Elance profile of a service provider -- petermor.

Your information was provided as a reference in the US. We were unfortunate to have encountered petermor who promised to develop our project, but instead embezzled our money. Both Elance and ourselves have attempted to contact petermor a.k.a. Peter Morison but were unable.

Unfortunately, up till now Elance proved itself useless in resolving this issue. If you have any contact information for this provider from the time you've had business
with we would appreciate you sharing it with us.

A few hours later we received the first reply:

Wow; he took your money and ran? Wild.

He did an acceptable job for us in managing our development work, though I'm begining
to think that the word 'deadline' has no meaning where he lives. I'm afraid all I can tell you is that he's in Mumbai, India (Bombay) and that he's on elance@petermor.com. Beyond that, I'm not sure where he is, physically.

Just for the record, I think he was acting as an intermediary for the guys who actually did our development work. I believe that the name 'Peter Moritz' was also an alias of his, but...I'm pretty sure the guy's actual name is Naveen C Joshi, his email is naveen@asmlabs.com, because he screwed his developers over (he didn't pay them), and they contacted me directly, very upset.

I would suggest using a 'reverse ip lookup' tool (you can google that term) to find the physical location of amslabs.com.

Hope that helps; fraud is against the law in India, too.

Well, apparently Elance doesn't even collect provider's real
name before promoting them as Select Providers. Don't you think the information
below is useless?

So, let's see how this works. When it comes to
providers, Elance, not really knowing who they really deal with, vouches for
them, by assigning them upgraded status, which in turn costs more to the buyer
without offering anything in return. Again this benefits Elance, who deligently
collects money from misled buyers and promptly forwards the cash "somewhere" and
when embezzlement like this case happens they offer the buyer a piece of useless
and incomplete information that they failed to collect, focusing on getting paid
rather than providing safe environment where the buyers won't get ripped off.

Sounds like a nice starter for any law-firm specializing in white-collar
crime and negligence.

Before we went ahead evaluating our other
alternatives what can Elance REALLY do for us to resolve this issue?

Playing email tag with Elance

Elance is very prompt at collecting money from both sides without applying any effort at providing safe environment. The money buyers pay for the projects do not go into escrow account until the work is delivered, which would’ve been a reasonable thing to do, but passes it to the provider minus they own commission and fees.

After we have officially complained to Elance they sent a message to provider... That was a week before provider disappeared.

Even since we’ve been playing email tag.
